(45g) Raw tur Dal

Vegetables (1 drumstick, 4–5 pcs of pumpkin, 4–5 madras onions)

Directions of Use

How To Make

  1. Cook the Dal: Soak 1 scoop (45g) tur dal for 1 hour. Discard the soaking water and empty the soaked dal in a vessel that will fit easily in your cooker. Add 4 scoops (200ml) of water to it. Fill your pressure cooker with water till it is 2 inches deep, and place a ring/stand in it. Place the dal container on the ring/stand and cook for 6–7 whistles until soft. Wait for the cooker to release pressure naturally, then remove the dal container. Whisk the dal well until smooth.
  2. Boil the Vegetables: Pressure cook 1 drumstick, 4–5 pieces of pumpkin, and 4–5 madras onions for 2–3 whistles.
  3. Prepare the Sambhar: In a pan add the cooked dal and 6 scoops (300ml) water, boiled vegetables, and Kosintta gravy paste. Mix until smooth. Boil for 5–7 minutes.
  4. Optional Sweetness: Add sugar from the sachet if you like sweet sambhar. Adjust salt to taste.
  5. Serve: Garnish with coriander and enjoy with rice, idli, dosa, or uthappam.
